Dr. Serdar Celik Receives 2025 Sustainability Leadership Award

Dr. Serdar Celik, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, has recently been honored with the 2025 Sustainability Leadership Award of SIUE. The award was presented at the Fuller Dome during the annual Spirituality & Sustainability Awards Night on September 12.
Dr. Celik was recognized for his leadership in organizing the SIUE Energy Symposia and for fostering collaborations with Washington University in St. Louis, which helped pave the way for SIUE to join the Midwest Climate Collaborative. His work has significantly contributed to advancing SIUE’s role in regional climate and sustainability initiatives.
In addition to his leadership activities, Dr. Celik is the author of Sustainable Energy: Engineering Fundamentals and Applications (Cambridge University Press), a text that continues to guide students and professionals in the field of sustainable engineering.
The Sustainability Leadership Award celebrates individuals who demonstrate outstanding commitment to advancing sustainability, climate action, and community engagement.
