The Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project is a well-known national initiative geared at raising awareness of interpersonal violence. The EOA hosts its own personal version of this event and welcomes all students and staff members to decorate a t-shirt with a message related to prevention or awareness of interpersonal violence. All completed t-shirts are then displayed in Peck Hall for one week in April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Art Hives
These events serve as opportunities for students to engage in conversation while using their artistic skills to create a project they are proud of. The EOA holds this event in collaboration with the Art Therapy Department. A variety of art supplies are provided, and facilitators host conversations surrounding topics such as domestic violence and healthy relationships with those who take part in the art fun.
Break the Silent
Covering both substance use and domestic violence awareness, this event focuses on providing multiple interactive activities for students to engage with in the Morris University Center. Refreshments and giveaways are available for students to take from the event as well. Each activity, in collaboration with other resources, provides students with opportunities to understand the impacts of substance use and domestic violence, and educate themselves on the topics.
Cover the Cruiser
Cover the Cruiser is a well-known national initiative often used as a means of raising awareness of domestic violence. As part of this event, students are given the opportunity to write their own personalized message related to this topic on a sticky note and place it on an SIUE PD cruiser. Counseling Services, SIUE PD, and Metro East Every Survivor Counts join the EOA in encouraging students to participate and offering resources of their own to participants. This offers a great opportunity for students to speak with the numerous resource centers available to them.
Consent Bingo
In collaboration with Residential Life, the EOA hosts numerous rounds of bingo, free to anyone interested in attending. The game questions, and answers on cards, relate to the topic of consent. Winners of rounds are able to choose from several kinds of prizes. By the end of the night, participants are familiar with what consent is and is not.
Domestic Violence Door Decorating Contest
Hosted by the EOA and open to any department on campus, this event involves decorating an entry door or bulletin board with a message related to domestic violence awareness. Once the deadline is reached, all decorated doors are photographed and put into a gallery for voting. In 2024, the winner was the East St. Louis Campus Learning Resource Center door "Bad Relationship Advice from Disney!"
The Bystander Moment Film Showing
This event serves as a wonderful opportunity for students to gain more knowledge on "rape culture" and doing their part, as individuals, to prevent sexual violence in society.
Cups, Conversation, and Community
In honor of Stalking Awareness Month in January, EOA and SIUE PD collaborated to offer refreshments to any student interested in stopping at the Morris University Center and learning a bit about stalking and how to prevent it and protect themselves from it. In 2025, even therapy dogs, Max and Chase, attended!
Minute to Win It
As a means of providing education on healthy relationship building, the EOA hosts a "Minute to Win It" night in collaboration with Residential Life. Students play several games, each limited to one minute, that related to healthy relationships. The winner of the most games receives a prize.
Women's History Month Gallery
As a part of Women's History Month in March, the EOA selects several impactful women and creates decorative posters about each of them. Each poster contains a photo and information about the woman and facilitators provide information to those passing through the Morris University Center and interested in learning more.
