Competitive Graduate School Internal Funding

Programs are subject to change at the Graduate School’s discretion. If there are discrepancies between sources of information about a program (including but not limited to webpages, application forms, and other documentation), the Graduate School shall decide which information governs.

January	Competitive Graduate Award	Students	Supports highly qualified new graduate students who are accepted into master's degree programs
January	Seed Grants for Transitional and Exploratory Projects (STEP)	Faculty, Staff	Provides seed funding on a competitive basis to SIUE faculty and staff to support research and creative activities
February	Hoppe Research Award	Faculty	Recognizes associate professors whose research or creative activities promise to continue making significant contributions to their fields of study
March	Graduate Scholar Award	Students	Provides financial support in the form of tuition waivers to academically qualified individuals underrepresented in master's-level graduate programs and/or academic disciplines
April	Research Grants for Graduate Students (spring awards)	Students	Supports research and creative activities initiated and conducted by SIUE classified masters students to enhance their academic progress
July	Research Grants for Research Doctoral Students	Students	Supports research/projects initiated and conducted by students of the SIUE EdD, DNP, and co-operative PhD programs to enhance their academic progress
August	Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award	Students	Recognizes graduate assistants for outstanding performance in teaching and instruction
September	Outstanding Thesis Award	Students	Recognizes graduate students whose thesis or dissertation has been identified by the Graduate School as outstanding among all those submitted during the previous academic year
September	SIU System Collaborative Grant	Faculty	Supports new collaborations in health-related research
September	Distinguished Research Professor	Faculty	An academic rank awarded to SIUE professors to recognize outstanding and sustained contributions to research and creative activities
October	Paul Simon Outstanding Teacher-Scholar Award	Faculty	Recognizes a faculty member who integrates their research and teaching
October	Vaughnie Lindsay New Investigator Award	Faculty	Recognizes assistant professors whose research or creative activities promise to make significant contributions to their fields of study
October	Innovation & Excellence in Graduate Education	Faculty & Staff	Supports an annual theme designed to enhance graduate education
November	Research Grants for Graduate Students (fall awards)	Students	Supports research and creative activities initiated and conducted by SIUE classified masters students to enhance their academic progress
November	Research Equipment and Tools	Faculty	Provides funds to assist with updating and furnishing research equipment and research tools. NOTE: This competition runs depending upon fund availability at the discretion of Associate Dean.
