Discipline(s): All
The Center for Predictive Analytics (C-PAN) was founded in response to the growing need for data science expertise across all disciplines. C-PAN is dedicated to the development of innovative data analysis solutions that enable our industry, government, and academic partners to utilize their data to its fullest potential while also providing real-world training opportunities to the next generation of data science.
Most of our work is founded on the principles of:
- Supporting Student Success
- Fostering Multidisciplinary and Multi-Institutional Collaborations
- Enhancing SIUE’s Externally Funded Research Portfolio
- Supporting the Use of Data and Data Analysis in Faculty Research
- Promoting Ethical Data Research Practices through Workshops, Conferences, and Seminars
WHO WE ARE
C-PAN works with every unit across campus. In addition to our Director, Carrie Butts-Wilmsmeyer, and our System Strategic Plan Research Fellow, Courtney Breckenridge, C-PAN hires Faculty Fellows, Faculty Affiliates, and Ambassadors to serve the SIUE campus community.
Faculty Fellows conduct research in an area of data science as it relates to C-PAN’s mission and active projects. These are typically paid positions that are written into grants and contracts, but we do also consider unsolicited faculty applications if they align with C-PAN’s mission.
Faculty Affiliates are faculty who work in data science who commonly supervise Data Science Interns, undergraduate students who are involved in experiential learning projects in data science. These projects do not have to be directly aligned with the mission and current projects at C-PAN.
C-PAN Ambassadors are SIUE personnel who have expertise in data analysis and various statistical or data science approaches. They come from colleges all across SIUE, and they are available to assist other faculty in analyzing their data. The C-PAN Ambassadors are fully paid for their services out of our center’s budget, so there is no charge for other faculty and staff to ask for their assistance, within reason.
