Compliance Highlight - Remote ID for Drones
Posted March 20, 2024
Discipline(s): All
As a reminder, all drone pilots that are required to register their drone must operate under the Remote Identification (ID) rule by operating:
- A standard Remote ID Drone – a drone produced with built-in Remote ID broadcast capabilities; or
- A Drone with Remote ID Broadcast Module – a device with Remote ID broadcast capabilities that can be attached to the drone; or
- At an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA) – areas where drone without Remote ID broadcast capabilities can operate. More information on FRIA can be found here.
You can check if your Drone or Broadcast Module is Remote ID ready by:
- Going to the FAA UAS Declaration of Compliance website,
- Click on “View Public DOC List,”
- Filter by “RID,”
- Search for your drone or broadcast module.
If your drone or broadcast module is NOT listed, you may only fly in a FRIA.
As a reminder, all drones or UAS flown for University-related activities are required to register the drone with the FAA. Registration must be done by SIUE and not yourself. You can complete the required application via Kuali Build by clicking here.
