Institutional Repositories (IRs) aim to bring together all of a University's research and creative output under one umbrella, with an aim to preserve and provide access to that content. SIUE SPARK (Scholarly Publications and Repository of Knowledge) is a service of Library and Information Services, fulfilling and expanding the library's traditional role in collecting and preserving the scholarly record and providing open access to SIUE's scholarly and creative output.
IRs are an excellent vehicle for copies of published articles and conference papers. Presentations, performances, theses, capstone/culminating projects, and other works not published elsewhere can also be published in the IR.
Many federal funding agencies now have policies requiring or strongly preferring that grant recipients share the products of grant-funded research openly with the public. This includes publications/articles as well as research data generated during the course of research. A common requirement is a data management plan, which describes how research data will be handled and how it will be shared with the public.
SIUE SPARK may be used as a platform for sharing both articles and data. Please contact Library and Information Services if you would like assistance or more information about sharing requirements, uploading to SPARK, or writing the data management plan.
