Compliance Highlight - Mentoring and RCR Resources - NSF Changes to the Mentoring Plan

ORP News recently highlighted several changes to sections of the NSF PAPPG becoming effective May 20, 2024 (NSF Summary of Changes to the PAPPG). Among the changes is an expansion to the Mentoring Plan which requires a mentoring plan for postdoctoral researchers or graduate students supported on the project (Chapter II.D.2.i (i)). The same expansion is also applicable to Individual Development Plans (Chapter VII. B.7).
To assist with mentoring and responsible conduct of research training, the Graduate School’s Research Integrity site provides multiple resources for faculty and students. Here you will find information on how to utilize the RCR Mentorship Suite with your mentee to assess their skills, ensure appropriate training and develop an individual development plan. The site also provides discussion materials, videos, and case studies to further the dialogue.
Also of interest, the Mentoring Graduate Students site provides information on the Student Mentoring Agreement and how to customize it to fit the needs of your mentor/mentee relationship, as well as how faculty can access on-demand mentoring modules for their own professional development.
