Posted June 11, 2025
GeoMARC is a dynamic research center dedicated to advancing the use of geospatial technologies in the region.
GeoMARC applies tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, imagery analysis, automation, machine learning, and both aerial (UAS) and terrestrial data collection to address real-world challenges faced by government agencies, private industry, academic institutions, and local communities.
The center’s primary objective is to foster cross-disciplinary, multi-institutional, and intra-university collaborations that promote the innovative use of geospatial technologies. Through these partnerships, GeoMARC aims to lead and influence research, development, and technological advancement in the geospatial field.
History
Originally founded in 1995 as the Laboratory for Applied Spatial Analysis (LASA), GeoMARC was established in 2021 as an IHBE-sanctioned research center—marking a formal evolution into a broader and more impactful institutional role. This transformation reflects its continued commitment to leadership in geospatial research, technology, education, and applied solutions.
Since its inception, GeoMARC has initiated and maintained collaborations, research efforts, contracts, and partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders—including federal, state, county, and local government agencies, universities, non-governmental organizations, multinational corporations, private companies, and startups.
