Investment Categories and Earnings
The SIUE Foundation maintains cash and investments in four major investment account categories.
Operating: Day-to-day cash account from which operating expenses are paid and operating income is deposited.
Non-Endowment: The account includes funds not endowed and not needed for operating purposes. It is a diversified portfolio managed by professional investment managers. The account seeks long-term growth, but also has to meet the liquidity needs of the Foundation and has a lower risk profile than the Endowment. It invests approximately 40% in growth assets, primarily equities, and 60% in defensive assets, primarily fixed income.
Endowment: A diversified portfolio managed by professional investment managers consisting of all endowed assets of the SIUE Foundation. The portfolio can be invested up to 70% in equity investments. A distribution is made at the end of each fiscal year to a scholarship or program fund within the non-endowment investment account when earnings are sufficient for that fiscal year.
Planned Giving: A portfolio managed by the planned giving administrator for the SIUE Foundation, CNB Bank & Trust, N.A.. The portfolio consists of charitable gift annuity assets. These assets are invested according to the American Council on Gift Annuities recommended asset allocation.
