The IBC needs to confirm that, as project director, you have a firm grasp of the potential hazards associated with your research and a concrete plan for mitigating those hazards for project personnel, other lab workers, and individuals who may come in contact with the laboratory space or the materials. The application should include a summary of the proposed work, a justification of why a potential biosafety hazard is required to answer the questions, detailed descriptions of biohazardous material necessary for the research, and a clear explanation of how the biohazardous material will be used. The committee will also look for evidence that you have considered potential hazards and have listed specific mitigation strategies. This should include a detailed description of safety precautions including, but not limited to, signage, types of PPE, transportation considerations, training, and waste disposal.
