Is Student Government For You?
Student Government represents undergraduate, graduate and professional students at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. It consists of two branches, Executive and Legislative, and its primary function is to serve as an advocate on student issues and voice students’ concerns about campus issues.

The office is located on the second floor of the Student Success Center, Room 1280. You may contact Student Government during normal business hours, Monday - Friday, 8am – 4:30pm or by calling 618-650-3818.

Mitch Baldwin, Student Body Vice President Vision for Student Government: "As Vice President, I would like to fulfill my duties of running the Senate to the best of my ability by promoting the most adaptable work environment. I would like to see not only a large quantity of bills and resolutions, but also those with the quality that should be produced by a high functioning senate." Moayad "Mo" Abuzaneh, Student Trustee Vision for Student Government: My vision is to strengthen communication between students and administration, ensure transparency in financial decisions, and amplify the voices of underrepresented groups. This year, I hope to continue advancing mental health resources, sustainable initiatives, and student engagement opportunities that reflect the needs of our diverse community. Hobbies: I enjoy learning about cars, especially customizing it and attending car meets. In my free time, I love swimming, photography, riding motorcycles, and working out at the gym. I also enjoy spending time with friends and creating fun content for fun.

Hometown: Moro, IL Year in School: Junior Major: Physics & Mathematical Studies Vision for Student Government: I will continue to work with the students to assist them in their journey of starting new student organizations on campus and advising our current organizations. Along with supporting the already involved students, I plan to outreach to other students who are less involved and ensure they feel they are apart of the Cougar Community. This will be done through organization promotions, more on-campus events, and working alongside student leaders. Hobbies: Going to the gym, studying Korean, playing with lasers, fencing, hanging out with my cats, watching K-Dramas, hiding that I'm Batman, locking in, yapping, and then some.

Legislative
2025-2026 Legislative Branch
The legislative branch of Student Government consists of 31 senators elected by the Student Body during annual elections held during Spring Semester or appointed, pursuant to the Student Government Constitution. Two of these thirty five elected Senators are graduate students; and two freshman senators are appointed during the Fall Semester.

Jackson Morgan, Senator for the School of Business Vision for Student Government: Connections are everything when it comes to business. Therefore, I want to give incoming first-year students the opportunity to meet more educated students who can help guide them throughout their first year. A mentorship program that allows students to gain service hours and experience of leading to place on their résumé could boost student performance and increase employment after college. This would also allow incoming students to become familiar with the institution’s resources and become more successful. Hobbies: I like to hang out with friends, play pickleball and soccer, and watch movies.
