Welcome to the Writing Center
We are here to help you work on specific parts of the paper that you are struggling with during your composition process. Please note that our services do not include editing, proofreading, or evaluating your paper against a rubric.

To schedule an appointment with a writing tutor, complete the following steps:
- Go to siue.mywconline.com and sign in.
- Select the time and day you would like to be tutored (NOTE: we only allow for appointments to be made up to one week in advance).
- Complete the required information. Be sure to include:
- Your name
- Your instructor’s name
- The class (department & number)
- The assignment (briefly describe it) — very important!
- Inform the tutor of the areas of your paper where you are struggling. Please be as specific as possible, including multiple questions and descriptions. The tutor will use this information when they assist you with your paper.
- Select the type of appointment you would like. We currently offer in-person sessions, Online Tutoring (synchronous video tutoring) and e-Tutoring (asynchronous tutoring via email). See below for details:
Online Tutoring
During this one-on-one video session you will work with a tutor on the areas of your paper you are concerned with, in the same way that you would if you were to visit the Writing Center in person. Before you begin your session, be sure you can identify the areas that you feel you are struggling with so you can point them out to the tutor. That way, your concerns are the focus of the 30 minute session. We do not proofread, edit, or evaluate papers against rubrics, so it is important you come to the Online Tutoring session prepared to discuss what you need help with.
e-Tutoring
For assistance with your paper via email asynchronously, attach it as a Word document when you set up your appointment. Make sure you provide specific explanations or ask questions about your paper, as the tutor will not just proofread your paper without instructions. You will receive an email after your appointment with your paper attached and comments from the tutor.
Please be mindful of the following parameters for all tutoring sessions:
- All tutoring sessions are limited to 30 minutes.
- Students can participate in only one session per day and a maximum of two sessions per week.
