SIUE wordmarks and logos, as well as the names “Southern Illinois University Edwardsville” and “SIUE,” are registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. SIUE may commence legal proceedings through the Office of General Counsel for trademark infringement to prevent unauthorized use of its trademarks.

SIUE's athletic teams, the Cougars, compete in 16 different NCAA Division I sports. The Cougars have collected 17 NCAA National Championships since the program's inception in 1967.
The tradition and spirit shared by SIUE's students, faculty, alumni, friends and fans have created a growing demand for products displaying SIUE's trademarks. The number of manufacturers who want to produce such products is also growing.
The SIUE trademark licensing program is the University's response to these demands. It promotes school spirit and pride by ensuring quality SIUE trademarked goods are available in the marketplace. It also protects the SIUE brand by ensuring consistency and compliance with trademark policy.
