Focused Goals
Student Veterans of America strives to continually grow our association while directly serving the veteran population on a daily basis. We found it is important to not only include veterans in our association, but to also include dependents. Dependents help provide support beyond our own capabilities and enable us to decipher the military-civilian divide. The major goals of our association are to:
- Help raise awareness of veteran issues at SIUE and within the Edwardsville area
- Provide mentorship and friendship to veterans and their dependents
- Promote camaraderie to enable student veterans to be better integrated into campus culture and community
- To expand veteran friendships through social events and meetings
- Assist Veteran Services in Veteran tours to better capture the needs, wants and expectations of our incoming student veterans
- Provide professional development workshops to better help veterans navigate through their academic coursework and after college life
- Volunteer and work closely with other Veteran-supporting organizations in the Edwardsville area
