Passive use of the preserve by members of the university and local communities for enjoyment of nature is encouraged. Use guidelines exist to ensure ongoing research and habitat restoration projects are not disturbed, and to promote good stewardship of the preserve as a critical ecosystem in the region. In particular, visitors should remain on established, marked trails. Collecting or removing any wildlife, plants, or other natural resources from the preserve is prohibited.
Teaching Activities and Curriculum Guides
SIUE and other area teachers from K-12 and higher education institutions are encouraged to visit campus and use the Nature Preserve as an extension of their classroom. SIUE faculty have developed engaging curricula that will be available for area teachers to use free of charge. Curriculum guides will be available here in the near future.
Teaching/Recreational Use Request Form
Educators, organization leaders, community groups, or other individuals wishing to visit the preserve in larger groups, or to conduct activities beyond passive recreation or requiring exceptions to general use guidelines should submit a request to the Use Committee.
