Individual Department and Program Senior Assignment Descriptions

The Industry and Company Analysis Project (ICAP) is designed to provide students with opportunities to apply the knowledge and analytical tools learned in MGMT441 Strategic Management as well other courses students have taken to a real life industry and company. The assignment consists of the following tasks:
1) To select an industry and a publicly traded company competing in that particular industry.
2) To identify important trends and changes in general macro environment and to examine their impact on an industry.
3) To analyze an industry structure by using the Five Forces framework. The five competitive forces, which determine the overall profitability of an industry, are the threat of rivalry, the threat from new entrants, the threat of substitutes, the threat from supplier, and the threat from buyer.
4) To perform analyses of a focal firm's generic business-level strategy or/and corporate-level strategy.
5) To evaluate a focal firm's competitive advantage by analyzing the firm's resources and capabilities and financial performances
6) To assess the fit between a focal firm’s strategy and its business environment and examine whether the focal firm is positioned to capture opportunities and neutralize threats.
Accounting
Students participate in a senior assignment where they research recent accounting issues, which is unique to SIUE.
