Helping Students Transition
FST 101 was implemented in fall 2019. The course was approved by the faculty senate and developed by a committee comprised of faculty and staff.
FST 101 aims to help students transition into college by preparing them for college-level academic course work and helping students engage as members of the SIUE community.
Course goals and objectives
- Demonstrate an understanding of general academic expectations for University students and identify the skills to help them meet these expectations
- Identify and utilize resources, support services, and opportunities for engagement and success at SIUE
- Recognize the value of learning and living in a diverse community, and acknowledge the common human dignity we share
- Articulate the structure, purpose, and value of the Lincoln Program and SIUE's curricula
- Express an awareness of the various commitments, obligations and rights as a student at SIUE
- Establish connections to faculty, staff and students in the SIUE community. FST 101 is one of the activities in the first-year experience at SIUE. It is our goal to continue to connect FST 101 to other first-year activities (Springboard to Success, SIUE Experience, etc.) to create an integrated first-year experience, that is a high impact practice available to all students.
