Into the Groove
Looks like we're still getting into the groove ourselves! Going forward, newsletters will still be a Monday thing.
Now’s the time to find and internalize those routine things that are going to keep you safe, sane, and afloat during the semester. Make these the core of your week and fill in the voids with all the awesomeness you can.
Honors Recommends: In addition to classes, make time for socialization, snacks, and study at the Learning Lounge tables this semester and get suitable points! Times will be posted via Suitable.
Drop in at Gaggle on Wednesdays 3-5 to touch base with us, ask questions of any sort, support other students, and be supported in kind. Gaggle is a support/impromptu advising/mini destress/random giveaways/suitable points group, meeting in the Martinson Honors Suite, Lovejoy Library 3rd floor.
Destress Thursdays are here with a new activity every Thursday 3-5. Stop the rush and bustle and enjoy a few hours of a fun thing in the Martinson Honors Suite, Lovejoy Library 3rd floor. This week, the fun thing is board games! Bring your own, or enjoy our collection.

This Week in Honors
- NOTE: The University is closed for Labor Day, Monday, September 1st. No classes, no offices open, and check dining services for possibly reduced hours.
- Peer Learning Support and Honors Office Assistant positions are closed. Honors applicants, expect to be contacted this week.
- Learning Lounges are OPEN COWORKING THIS WEEK. Students helping students, socializing, snacking, the way studying was meant to be. We'll have our learning lounge student staff hired soon, and the schedule will have an honors student able to assist with specific subjects as the semester gets harder. Times will be posted via Suitable.
- Advising: Last week for all walk-ins, all the time. Next week, move to regular hours and appointments.
- Advising: This week you'll need an add/drop form for classes with an advisor signature for adding a class specifically.
Familiarize Yourself with Suitable
Everyone! Suitable is more than just an engagement app. We'll be posting events like workshops to help you present better, build better resumes, and get more from your readings. Starting this fall, all honors students can log in to Suitable.
The most important change right now: reporting your service hours will happen through Suitable. If you’ve done service (or plan to soon), you’ll use the app to submit it. An announcement will be posted on the service website soon to let you know when the old way is going to be dismantled.
Here’s what to do this week:
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play
- Log in with your SIUE email to connect to the honors program.
Stay tuned for suitable announcements!

Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, IL is still offering a great opportunity for students looking for volunteer hours in the fall semester.
Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is an award-winning, evidence-based, intergenerational program for persons living with dementia. Student volunteers help provide opportunities for creative self-expression and social engagement for people living with dementia.
This program was developed at Miami University's Scripps Gerontology Center in Ohio and is grounded in person-centered principles.
