This is What it Sounds Like
Right after promising Monday releases, we were ambushed by a holiday! But seriously, Mondays from now on.
If you haven't watched Kpop Demon Hunters, you're at least familiar with it through memes or playlist suggestions or other fans. Check out the Honors tiktok as we launch #iancore! As a driving force of our honors program and quirky chicken personality at large, we're delighted to have him and felt that he deserves a little spotlight from time to time. Links to our social media in the newsletter.
On a more serious note, here's hoping you're settling in to your routines and making great memories as you go. This week we have advising announcements. It may feel like you've barely even started the semester, but it's time to start making your appointment to schedule the next! We've got a special event for the Pre-Health folks. Building community within interest groups can help keep you on track and focused in the years to come! The HSA is holding its first community meeting, and that's kind of a big deal! Making connections will never do you wrong.

Advising Announcements
- Advising: First and second year student advising through starfish.
- First Years: Wait for Ian to visit your HONS120 class this/next week before scheduling, because he has info you need. Your Pre-work is in the new advising badge in suitable. Direct Link:https://app.suitable.co/institution/6785/activities/508428
- Second Years: Pre-work for your advising appointment is in suitable, named Sophomore Focus in the forms section. It's called pre-work for a reason. Do not make your appointment before completing it.
- Advising: Walk-ins for Meagan will only be available during Gaggle on Wednesdays
Familiarize Yourself with Suitable
Everyone! While last year's first years were our pilot program, everyone is now eligible to use Suitable, and it's more than just an engagement app. We'll be posting events like workshops to help you present better, build better resumes, and get more from your readings. Starting this fall, all honors students can log in to Suitable, and we will be introducing incentives for participation!
The most important change right now: reporting your service hours will happen through Suitable. If you’ve done service (or plan to soon), you’ll use the app to submit it. An announcement will be posted on the service website soon to let you know when the old way is going to be dismantled.
Here’s what to do this week:
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play
- Log in with your SIUE email to connect to the honors program.
Stay tuned for suitable announcements!
Service Updates
-
Holiday Shores fire department needs you to pretend to be injured for training. Save the Date for September 20th and email Greg Jennings (gjennin@siue.edu) for details regarding the wheres and whens. This is kind of a crunch, as the original actors fell through, and they need your help!
Honors Student Association
Monday, September 8th marks the Honors Student Association's first community meeting! This meeting is a great opportunity to hear about all that HSA has to offer—from service to leadership to just fun events for meeting fellow honors students! If you would like to bring a friend, even if they're not in honors, that's cool too! All are welcome!
Additionally, there is now a suitable activity for this!
