This Week in Honors
- Learning Lounges continue, and as you get deeper into your courses and encounter harder material, don't forget we have Peer Mentors to help you through the bog.
- Gaggle hasn't been getting a lot of publicity lately,but don't forget: Every Wednesday from 3-5pm 3FL Lovejoy Library. This student support group is there to help with all your studenty needs! Emotional support? Vent about a frustrating assignment? Ask attending students and staff the how-to's of setting up a bank account? (We've done that.) Heck, even if you just need advice on which shoes to wear for date night. Gaggle is here!
- De-stress Thursday this week is Halloween Coloring week! Thursday from 3-5pm in Lovejoy Library 3FL.
Pre-Health
- Pre-Health workshop, next Thursday, Oct 9th, 5pm-6pm "Getting Started" in Lovejoy Library 1st floor classroom - Not sure where to start in your Pre-health application process or how to become a competitive applicant? Designed for first-year and second-year students that need the basics on how to apply to health-oriented professional schools and how to make a plan.

Advising Announcements
- Juniors and Seniors: Hold release depends on you filling out this form.
- Reminder: On choosing courses: Check out the catnip! Catnip gives you a quick taste of the semester's course offerings. Use these to find classes that fit your interests for when you get advised and register.
Do Your Prework Obligatory reminder for First- and Second-Years to finish your prework on Suitable before advising for the next semester!
Honors Student Association (HSA)
- Freshmen Representative Elections have been reopened. If you are interested in serving as the voice of 2029 or know someone who could, please fill out the form! (Please note, only two positions are available.) The form will close TONIGHT, September 29th at 11:59 pm.
Honors First-Years have the opportunity to elect 2 students of "Freshman" standing to represent their class on the Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB).
Duties include:- Attend HSAB meetings.
- Be in 2 committees or be chair of 1 committee.
- Help plan and host events, along with conducting projects in conjunction with the HSA Officers
- Must be of "Freshman" standing
- Must be in good standing with SIUE
Community Meeting BBQ! HSA had a wonderful first community meeting on September 8th. For our next one, we will be outside! Join us and other honors faculty for a BBQ/Bonfire, Friday, October 17th, 5:30-7:30 pm on Dunham Lawn. Food and drinks will be provided, as well as games and activities! If you would like to just chill, feel free to bring some quilts and lay on the lawn. Come fall into fall, even if just for a little bit!
(Add to Calendar)- Service Opportunities: Last Saturday, September 20th, HSA took a trip down to Carbondale! There, they collaborated with SIUC's Honors Student Assembly to perform service for Make Carbondale Beautiful. If this sounds of any interest to you, join our GetInvolved (go to <getinvolved.siue.edu> and search "Honors Student Association") to be added to our Teams and updated on all future events! If interested in not only participating but planning such events, you can join the service committee by contacting racrobe@siue.edu!
Service Announcements
- Service Hours should now be reported through Suitable for all honors students. Over this week, we'll migrate hours to the new system, clear out the backlog of unreviewed service, and other magics. For questions regarding Suitable, stop by our fancy new reception desk on the 3rd floor of the Library in the Martinson Honors suite. Our student workers will be happy to help you find activities and forms and explain why those two are different and important.
