So. Much. Cardboard.
First and foremost, the cardboard box fort event was glorious. No, really, I was awed by your creativity and cooperation. Pictures are available on the Honors instagram. If you attended, but weren't able to scan the code, contact vhovers@siue.edu directly to get your Suitable points.
Reminder, the Pumpkin Decorating Contest is underway! Carve a jack o'lantern! Or paint! Or bejewel! Or draw! It doesn't even have to be a real pumpkin! Digital art, clay, fabric, or anything that says pumpkin and has been turned into a jack o'lantern or other neat art is eligible!
From the 10th through the 26th, submit your pumpkin on Suitable. Bonus points (both Suitable and in my heart) awarded directly for bringing it in to the office for display during the month. Voting will take place on the honors Instagram page from the 27th through the 30th. Winners announced on the 31st. In keeping with the season, there will be mystery prizes both for participation and for top pumpkins.
Don't have access to pumpkins or art supplies? For De-stress Thursday on the 23rd, there will even be a chance to paint tiny pumpkins in the library! Double points!
Ian will eventually shower us with more Christmas than you can shake a stick at, so let's be spooky while we can.
In other news, we have some very, very important advising announcements, and some great events this week. Read on!

Service Opportunities
- The Weavers' Guild of St. Louis is looking for volunteers to help with our Annual Guild Sale in October, and we look forward to working with the SIUE Honor's department again this year.
Who are we? The Weavers' Guild of St. Louis was founded in 1926 as an extension of the weaving classes in the School of Fine Arts at Washington University making it the second oldest weaving guild in the nation. Today, the guild is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization with a membership that varies from novice weavers to professional fiber artists. Our Annual Weavers' Guild Sale provides an opportunity for our artists to sell their work as well as a chance for educational outreach through the demonstrations during the sale hours. Lastly, the proceeds from the Sale provides scholarships for students seeking further education through classes and workshops in the fiber arts. In fact, several SIUE students have benefited from these scholarships over the years.
What & When? Each year, the Sale requires several hours for set up and breakdown. We unload a storage POD on Wednesday and reload the POD at the close of the Sale on Saturday. We would greatly appreciate any assistance with these tasks. Our Annual Sale is located at the First Congregational Church of Webster Groves, in Webster Groves, Missouri - at 10 W. Lockwood Ave at the corner of Elm and Lockwood.
We do have carts for hauling the props between the display room and the storage POD.
Here are the days and times we have scheduled for set-up and break-down of the Sale:
Wed, Oct 22nd from 3 - 6pm --- Unload fixtures & set up display
Sat, Oct 25th from 4 - 7pm ---- Breakdown, carry out to the POD
We would be thrilled to have the help from SIUE Honor's students. Please let me know if you have any questions or need more details.
Best regards,
Jane Olson Glidden

phone: 314-495-2740 - Local food pantry in Cottage Hills, Community Hope Center, is regularly looking for volunteers to help out day to day. Additionally, they're looking for volunteers to come help at a fundraising trivia night that is coming up Oct. 24.
CHC also is open to people in need of a hot meal or help with groceries. My boss also said she would love to help any students in need of assistance. As long as they can get to the location, they will be fed.
