Current Partners
Venice, Madison, and Brooklyn, IL
The villages are located along the Mississippi River and feature abounding culture and history. VMB once provided refuge to newly freed enslaved people and Brooklyn proudly identifies as "America's First Black Town."
Today, the communities face the challenge of historical disinvestment and socioeconomic and environmental disparities. The community leaders and residents have partnered with SSCC to strategically develop sustainable revitalization plans. Through this collaboration, master proposals will be designed to support quality community development, restored infrastructure, and innovative eco-systems to fight current and future climate disasters. The plans include a new grocery store in Venice, installing a new recreation center, building approximately 70 new affordable homes, constructing a new comprehensive health care facility, establishing a new regional trades workforce facility, and renovate Madison High School.
