The City of Edwardsville was incorporated in 1818 and is a part of the Metro-East region of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area.
Home to about 25,000 residents, Edwardsville is home to the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville main campus, the Edwardsville Art Center, Wildey Theater, Edwardsville Children's Museum, Madison County Historical Museum, Watershed Nature Center, Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities, the Madison County Record and the Edwardsville Intelligencer.
A 2010 issue of Family Circle magazine named Edwardsville third of their "Top 10 Best Towns for Families."
