Core & Elective Courses
The following list has been created to assist students in selecting electives that reflect career areas. Electives may be taken from a specific area or combined from multiple areas. Certain courses may only be listed in one area but will fit multiple areas, such as Needs Assessment (PAPA 577) and Strategic Planning (PAPA 576). Another elective that crosses all boundaries would be the Values and Ethics class (PAPA 507). Also listed below are a variety of Seminar and Issues classes that the Public Administration and Policy Analysis Department offers under the designation of 555 and 599. These courses allow the program to offer and develop courses that reflect trends in the various subfields of public administration, student interests and career needs, and the skill sets of the faculty.
As demand for the subfield increases and the courses grow in popularity, the Department will move to add the courses formally to the curricula of the program. For example, the five leadership classes listed below were initially offered under the 555 and 599 course numbers. While the Department attempts to offer each of these courses at least once a year, some are not offered as frequently due to a lack of demand or lack of an instructor.
