Welcome to the Department of Anthropology!
Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. This includes human culture alongside human biology, making anthropology an eclectic field with broad applications to challenges faced by contemporary societies. Anthropologists develop knowledge of and respect for the biological and cultural diversity of humankind through the integrated fields of biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and archaeology.
If you want to do anthropology, not just read about it, come to SIUE. Our students can major or minor in anthropology at the undergraduate level, with opportunities for hands-on fieldwork and analysis. The Department of Anthropology also coordinates undergraduate minors in forensic sciences and Native American studies. At the graduate level, our students prepare for careers in cultural heritage and resource management through SIUE’s integrative studies program.
Whatever your life goals, come do anthropology with us!
