What is anthropology, and what can I do with it?
Anthropology in the United States is divided into four major disciplines, each focusing on different aspects of what makes us human. The four fields of anthropology are cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, biological anthropology and archaeology. In addition, given our concern with solving contemporary societal problems, we might consider applied anthropology to be the fifth field of anthropology.
What can you do with an anthropology degree? The real question is, what can’t you do with an anthropology degree? Most people today go through multiple careers in their lifetime. No matter what those careers are, you are going to be working with people - and you will be working with people who are not like you. By giving you a foundation of knowledge and respect for human biological and cultural diversity, we believe there is no better way to prepare for life in the 21st century than to study anthropology.
What can you do with anthropology? Anything - and everything - you want.
