Prevention Education Manager at Safe Connections
As an intimate partner violence prevention educator, I use sociology to assess the needs of the populations of the young people I serve. Sociology lends me the skills to create curriculum, develop both content and overall aesthetics of presentations, and choose language and pop culture references wisely. The social awareness I gained in sociology helps us assess whether we’re approaching domestic/sexual violence prevention in an intersectional way. We want to ensure that we aren’t being youth oppressive with our language and our activities, to make sure our content and language is gender inclusive, people-first and racially representative of all the populations.
