The Value of Sociology
Sociology is the study of human society, social behavior, and social change. It empowers us to:
- Understand the complex web of relationships, institutions, and forces that shape our rapidly changing world;
- Navigate and appreciate cultural differences and similarities;
- Stand at the forefront of social justice efforts; and
- Shape policies that lead to meaningful social change.
Our graduates take their sociological backgrounds into a variety of careers, including teaching, human resource management, research, activism, consulting, recruitment, or doctoral studies. Regardless of where they end up, our students communicate openly, think creatively, and interact easily with diverse groups of people. Most importantly, our students demonstrate that Sociology is not just an academic pursuit: it is a pathway to becoming an informed, engaged, and impactful global citizen.
Our Commitment
Our department is committed to our students. We are committed to:
- Providing a rigorous education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical research and communication skills;
- Conducting impactful research that contributes to sociological understanding and social progress;
- Fostering a perse and inclusive community of scholars and students; and
- Engaging with local and global communities to apply sociological insights to real-world challenges.
Whether you are a current student, a prospective student, or simply curious about the programs, classes, and opportunities we offer, we look forward to embarking on this journey with you.
