Graduate Program
Our graduate program is currently taking a brief pause on new admissions for Spring 2024-Spring 2025. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Department Chair, Dr. Florence Maatita (fmaatit@siue.edu).
Our students love the SIUE graduate program in sociology for two main reasons.
- First, since class sizes are small, students develop close relationships with faculty. Students publish and work with faculty, as well as receive support from faculty developing their own projects.
- Second, students place themselves more competitively in the job market. After our students complete their degrees, they have tremendous luck in receiving jobs.
Students who complete the master’s, internship, and comprehensive exam options go on to pursue a PhDs in sociology or pursue careers in related fields such as education, library sciences and public relations. Those students who complete the internship option tend to find employment in the places where they complete their internships. Regardless of which path they take to completing their degree, our students use their research and writing skills to move up in the work setting of their choice.
