Commitment to Integrity
SIUE personnel are expected to conduct their activities in an objective manner, free from undue influence arising from private or other special interests. The University and its employees often benefit from the employee's participation in outside activities. However, employees must ensure that their outside obligations, financial interests and activities do not conflict or interfere with their commitment to the integrity of their SIUE responsibilities, a sponsored project, the sponsor and the public interest. This obligation pertains to both full-time and part-time employees.
The purpose of Policy 1Q9 is to establish guidelines for recognizing, disclosing, and managing conflicts of interest and commitment. This policy sets forth procedures and guidelines that are to be followed in resolving actual and potential conflicts of interest and commitment. The policy applies to all sponsored projects, non-SIUE employment and volunteer activities. Certain provisions apply only to employees receiving funding from the Public Health Service (PHS) and other entities requiring financial conflict of interest disclosure.
Additional guidance is provided by Human Resources.
