Are you Concerned?
Since many reports are not seen immediately, please call 911 for any student who is experiencing suicide ideation or homicide ideation and/or plan of intent to harm self or others.
If you are concerned about a student, faculty or staff member, please feel free to use the Care Report to communicate your concern to the Dean of Students and the behavioral incident counselor at the University. A copy of the report will be sent to each of these individuals to ensure a prompt and active discussion regarding the circumstances at hand. You may also request a copy of the report for your records by checking the box near the end of the report. At the end of the report, you are required to check a box indicating that you understand that the report may not be read immediately. We may contact you for more information or your assistance in the matter at a later date. Please do not be alarmed if you are not contacted by either of these individuals; the University is acting on your report as well as other sources of information in such a way that is appropriate to the concern.
For more detailed information regarding how to help students who are in distress as well as make referrals for professional help, please review the Helping Students in Distress Handout [pdf] or the Helping Students in Distress Handbook [pdf].
Sexual Assault, Sexual Misconduct, and Relationship Violence Incident Report
If you are considering submitting a CARE Report for an incident directly related to one of these three areas, please instead share that information here.
Services Outside of the University
Counseling Services is not equipped to treat faculty and staff members with psychological distress. However, as an employee of SIUE, you have the opportunity to seek services outside of the University. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides support and valuable information during difficult times for faculty and staff members at SIUE. EAP is a free, confidential, and voluntary program that can provide counseling and community mental health referrals to individuals in need, regardless of the chosen healthcare plan.
Please visit the Employee Assistance Program website for more information.
