As a Staff Counselor, Sara’s main role in the department is to provide therapy services to clients on an individual basis. Sara most recently worked at a private practice in Collinsville, IL providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families. Prior to this, Sara interned at SIUE Counseling Services for a year and a half, while obtaining her master’s degree in Social Work. Sara also obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from SIUE in 2020. Some of the presenting concerns that Sara enjoys working with the most are anxiety, depression, adjustment, identity, grief, and trauma. Sara acknowledges that each client is unique and at a different space in their healing journey. Sara operates from a client-entered approach, and utilizes interventions from Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectal Behavioral Theory.
In my role as a staff counselor:
"I believe that the most important part of the therapy process is building rapport with my clients, and taking the time to truly understand their values, goals, and needs. This means meeting client’s where they are at, and providing skills to get them where they want to be. I believe that it is okay to be curious, but it is not okay to be judgmental. I strive to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to speak openly about their experiences and process life stressors."
