What to Expect
To become a patient at the SIU School of Dental Medicine, we encourage you to call our friendly and knowledgeable clinic staff at 618-474-7000. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have and help you schedule and prepare for your first visit.
Your first visit to the SIU School of Dental Medicine will include a screening and comprehensive exam. The screening allows us to determine at what level you will be seen at the school as a patient. Upon acceptance, a comprehensive exam is then completed. During this comprehensive exam, a complete medical and dental history review will be completed and X-rays will be taken. You will then be scheduled for a treatment planning appointment.
During the treatment planning appointment, you will be examined by students and faculty to determine your comprehensive dental needs. Your proposed treatment plan and estimated costs will be explained to you. When applicable, alternative treatment plan(s) will be presented. After you have accepted your treatment plan, a dental student will be assigned to provide your dental care.
Your final cost for treatment may vary from that proposed at your treatment planning appointment due to changes in your treatment needs and/or the periodic adjustment of fees by the dental school.
Please note: As a patient in our dental school clinic, your treatment will be provided with the utmost care and oversight by faculty. However, because faculty oversight is necessary, the progress of your treatment will be considerably slower than in private practice. In addition, when your student and/or resident graduates, your care may be interrupted while waiting for a new provider to be assigned.
