Emergency Services for Non-Established Patients
If you are not an established patient of the School of Dental Medicine and are in need of emergency dental care, you may obtain limited treatment at the School of Dental Medicine. Call 618-474-7000 to arrange an appointment in our Emergency Department for the earliest possible time; however, due to the large number of calls the school receives, an appointment may not be available for several days. Emergency care is designed to alleviate pain and infection and is not definitive dental care.
The clinic starts accepting phone calls to schedule Emergency Department appointments at 8 a.m. The process starts over each day. PLEASE NOTE: Our clinic is not able to accept walk-ins without an appointment.
During your visit, we will make every attempt to resolve your primary concern. Patients should bring a list of current medications and the contact information for their primary care provider.
Patients are expected to pay an initial emergency exam fee. There will be additional charges for necessary radiographs and for any dental treatment provided. Emergency treatment fees will vary but most are under $200. Your treatment options will be discussed before care begins.
If further treatment is necessary after emergency care is rendered, you may seek private care or you may elect to continue your care at the School of Dental Medicine. The School of Dental Medicine does not assume responsibility for continued treatment following the rendering of emergency care.
Unfortunately, it is not always possible for the School to schedule all patients who call for emergency care; therefore, it may be necessary for you to seek emergency treatment elsewhere.
Seek immediate treatment at the nearest emergency room or call 911 if your symptoms are life-threatening, such as:
- Difficulty breathing
- Uncontrollable bleeding
- Severe swelling
- An inability to swallow
