About Dr. Pryor
Caroline R. Pryor, Ed.D. is Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education, Health, and Human Behavior. She joined SIUE in 2005 after having served five years as Assistant Professor/Regents Fellow at Texas A&M University. Pryor teaches graduate courses in Curriculum, Middle School Methods and Adult and Continuing Education online, serving as the program option Advisor. Pryor’s undergraduate teaching focus includes her research on STEM within the Social Studies. Dr. Pryor is chair of the Special Interest Group (SIG) Democratic Citizenship in Education of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and serves on the Board of Directors of the Archeological Institute of America, St. Louis and the Advisory Board of the Illinois Education Research Council.
Research Profile
Dr. Pryor is Editor of the international journal Learning for Democracy and a Wye Fellow of the Aspen Institute. She is the author of 45 publications, including Teaching Lincoln (with S. Hansen) and Editor of the upcoming 10-book series Critical Themes in Teaching American History. Pryor received the 1998 Best Paper Award from the Arizona Educational Research Organization, an affiliate of AERA. Her research has generated award nominations to the National Council of the Social Studies, AERA, and the Association of Teacher Educators. She has received six National Endowment for the Humanities grant awards for her workshops for school teachers on Abraham Lincoln.
