Posted February 28, 2023
The Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville hosted a networking night on Thursday, Feb. 23 connecting IE alumni, faculty and current students.
“Networking events like this are an excellent opportunity for us to connect, exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations,” said Sinan Onal, PhD, associate professor and chair of the IE department. “Our alumni are leaders in their respective fields, and their insights and experiences are invaluable resources for our students and faculty.”
The IE department is focusing on ways to develop effective branding strategies, establish strong partnerships in the community, create more attractive curriculum, generate funding to support students and develop a mentorship program for high school students. Attendees of the event participated in brainstorming groups, giving their perspectives and insights on how to achieve those department goals.
“A special thanks to those who support the IE department, our faculty and students,” Onal added. “. We will continue making a positive impact in our community, and connecting with and hearing from our alumni is an essential part of how to do that.”
The event was made possible from the generosity of IE alumni Kay Guse ‘88, Megan Harris ‘05 and Chico Weber ‘13.
