Description: |
There are many skills that we are interested in instructing and assessing related to our undergraduate students. Several of these skills can be difficult for instructors to incorporate into their classroom. Of the core SIUE undergraduate goals, oral communication ability is one that tends to fall into this category. One of the goals of the General Education Assessment Committee is to evaluate the instruction and effectiveness of oral communication. In this workshop, we will provide the general goals of the General Education Assessment Committee. We will then present assessment data that analyzes differences in oral communication ability between freshman and seniors. After the data presentation, members of Applied Communication Studies will present their techniques for instructing and assessing oral communication. The workshop will end with an opportunity for the attendees to share their experiences/practices with oral communication in the classroom as well as ask questions of the panel. The overall goal of this workshop is to have an open, honest conversation about the need for and the effectiveness/assessment of oral communication skills in the classroom. All faculty and staff are welcome to attend. **THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED** |
