NOTE: Please bring examples of your syllabi and course assignments to the workshop. Participants will learn and practice how to apply the literacy modalities (reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing, and visually representing) to support their teaching and student learning of disciplinary content. Learning content (history, math, science, literature, music/theater, etc.) is enhanced when students receive, process, and produce information by applying the literacy modalities and related strategies. Participants will learn how to: - make instructional decisions that incorporate oral, written, and visual modalities - select and use of a wide range of supplemental materials such as hands-on manipulatives, realia, pictures, visuals, multimedia, demonstrations, and print and non-print texts - select strategies that teach students how to listen to each other and how to comprehend various written and visual texts - teach students how to discuss and share information orally, in writing, and through visual representations |
