Inclusive Pedagogy & Community-Engaged Pedagogy Workshops
Overview:
Inclusive pedagogy is a student-centric approach to teaching and learning that emphasizes the construction of safe and supportive learning environments that invite all students—regardless of intersecting social identities—to thrive. Inclusive pedagogy is transdisciplinary and adaptable to numerous learning goals if instructors are dedicated to intentionality in course design and implementation. This workshop will focus on sharing multiple strategies that faculty can implement immediately to ensure that students feel included and supported in the classroom.
This will be sponsored by the Office of the Provost and Faculty Development Council.
Presenter: Dr. Michael Steven Williams is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Missouri. His research program broadly focuses on inclusion, diversity, equity, the social-psychological development of students, and institutional excellence in American postsecondary education. Specifically, he centers his inquiry on two aspects of higher education: (a) interpersonal relationships, particularly socialization and mentoring for students, administrators, and faculty, and (b) the institution, with a focus on organizational improvement and accountability through multi-pronged assessment and evaluation.
