Limited Submission: NEH Summer Stipends
The NEH Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archeological site reports, translations, editions and other scholarly resources. Stipends support projects at any stage of development.
Eligibility
Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars; organizations are not eligible to apply. Indirect costs are not allowed.
Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the NEH guidelines at https://www.neh.gov/grants/research/summer-stipends. Sample proposals are also available on the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend website.
As a taxpayer-supported federal agency, the NEH endeavors to make products of its awards available to the broadest possible audience. The goal is for scholars, educators, students, and the American public to have access to a wide range of NEH-funded products. Such projects might include digital resources, websites, public lectures and programming, etc. For projects that lead to the development of websites, all other considerations being equal, NEH gives preference to those that provide free access to the public.
The next NEH deadline for submission is September 18, 2024.
Beginning with the 2024 cycle, as a limited submission competition, the NEH Summer Stipend program allows each institution to submit only one (1) proposal.
Award Description
The NEH Summer Stipend offers awards of $8,000 to faculty members to conduct research and produce materials for publication. Awardees work full-time on their projects for two consecutive months. Stipend holders may visit archives or libraries and may hold other research grants supporting the same project during this time.
