U.S. Unclassified Graduate Application Instructions
(Non-Degree Seeking)
General Information
We are pleased that you have expressed interest in SIUE. This material provides information on applying for admission as an unclassified graduate student. Review it thoroughly before completing the application.
Unclassified graduate students are those not seeking a graduate degree at SIUE. Only a limited amount of credit earned while in unclassified status may be used to satisfy degree requirements (should the student subsequently be admitted to a degree program) and only under the conditions stipulated in the transfer credit regulations.
Unclassified students can review the Graduate Catalog and Class Schedule online. Select a term and then click "submit" to see what courses are offered.
The deadline for submitting the unclassified application is five working days prior to the first day of the term. Students can apply for admission by using the online application and must submit the application fee.
Application Fee
The $40 application fee must be submitted with the graduate application. Applications received without the fee will not be processed. Please note that this application fee is non-refundable. Payment should be made through your SIUE application center. Applicants who need to defer their admission to a later term of entry may update their file for the next two terms without another application fee.
Providing Academic Credentials
Applicants must have an official transcript mailed directly to the Office of Admissions by the institution granting the baccalaureate degree. This is not necessary for applicants who graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Institutions must mail all official transcripts to:

Institutions may also sent official electronic transcripts to siueapps@siue.edu. Transcripts emailed by students will be considered unofficial. Hand carried and faxed documents are not acceptable.
Check the Status of Your Application
To check the status of your application and ensure that all documents necessary to complete your admission file have been received, login to the SIUE Application Center and click on "Applications." Once your application is approved, you will receive an email notification.
Financial Support Information
Students in unclassified status are not eligible for assistantships, awards, veterans' educational benefits or most other forms of financial assistance. If you have questions concerning financial assistance, please contact the Office of Financial Aid before applying as an unclassified graduate student.
Restrictions
Education Administration, Psychology and Social Work have restrictions on unclassified students registering for their classes. If you plan to register for a class in one of these programs, please contact the Graduate Program Director prior to completing the application process to determine whether permission will be granted for you to take the selected course(s).
