The Executive Committee is both an action body and a steering committee. Its responsibility includes acting as a lobby group to further the interests of graduate education; the Committee will also undertake overall planning functions, which includes coordinating of the planning of the other two committees.
This Committee acts as the link to the Faculty Senate and its Executive Committee. This Committee may act as the representative of the Graduate Council to the Board of Trustees and external governing and policy bodies.
- Functions of the Committee
- Make Graduate Council committee assignments.
- Make recommendations to the Council regarding planning and priorities and coordinate the planning functions of the other committees of the Graduate Council
- Establish liaison with Planning Council of Faculty Senate and with other bodies whose functions relate to planning.
- Act as spokesman for Graduate Council on matters of concern that do not allow time for Graduate Council recommendations.
- Monitor the progress of Graduate Council decisions through the organization.

Members are elected by the Graduate Council at the seating of new members. - Historical Evolvement
The Committee membership changed in 1976 with the addition of an at large member elected by the Graduate Council at the seating of new members. The Committee membership changed in 1979 when the past chairperson was no longer a Council member, and changed in 2005 to include a Chair-elect/Vice Chair and to replace the At-large member with the chairs of the committees.
