General Assistantship (2523-2025)

Qualifications

Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis. Candidates should demonstrate a strong work ethic, adherence to professional standards and values and be an effective communicator that possesses good interpersonal skills. The candidate should have significant knowledge and experience in recreation management. A bachelor’s degree is preferred in recreation, exercise science, communications, management or other related field. Prior recreation management experience is preferred.

 

Position Description

The Operations and Rec Sports Graduate Assistant will split time between two responsible areas (Rec Operations and Aquatics personnel oversight). The Recreation Operations aspect of this position will rotate into supervision of activities within the exclusive recreational space of the Student Fitness Center and the shared recreation space in the Vadalabene Center and other auxiliary facilities (200,000 total sq. ft.). These facilities include a total of six basketball courts, 25-yard pool, two climbing areas, group fitness rooms, cycling room, multi-sport court, two informal fitness areas, a dedicated weight room, indoor jogging track, racquetball courts, multipurpose areas and member service stations. A combined workload of an average of 20 hours per week is expected with some early morning, evening, and weekend work required.

In Aquatics, this position will include student-lifeguard personnel management and other aquatics supervision duties of our indoor pool (25 yards, 6 lanes, 1-meter springboard). The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to developing and conducting in-service trainings for 10-15 lifeguards; recruiting, scheduling, and evaluating lifeguards, assisting with student payroll, policy maintenance, and the equipment inventory/purchasing process as necessary. Prior experience is aquatics is preferred, but not required.
