· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education before start date
· Must be a graduate student in good academic standing at SIUE (enrolled in at least 9 hours each long semester)
· All candidates must be accepted into their program
· Enroll in at least nine (9) credit hours per semester in graduate-level coursework
· Maintain a GPA of 3.0 throughout all employed semesters
· Excellent written and communication skills
· Excellent computer skills (e.g. MSWord, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
· Ability to work with diverse populations of faculty, staff, students and community members Preferred Qualifications
· Interest and knowledge in student development theory and student retention
· Ability to utilize concepts of student development in program planning, advising, and administrative duties or ability to learn concepts quickly
· Proven organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills
· Exhibit problem-solving and critical thinking skills
The Graduate Assistant for Student Leadership and Governance will assist the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub (K Hub) in the development, coordination, and support of student engagement initiatives that promote leadership, involvement, and shared governance within the student university community. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide direct support to student organizations - leaders, members, and activities - including, but not limited to: utilizing Get Involved, executing and managing financial activities, support with event planning, officer transitions, policy guidance, and overall organizational development. Support the planning, logistics, and implementation of student engagement programs such as student leadership retreats, training workshops, and other leadership development initiatives. Provide administrative, programmatic, and advisory support to elements of Student Government, including the Student Organization Advisory Board (SOAB), Finance Board, and Student Senate. Assist in the development and maintenance of resources, handbooks, training materials, and operational guides that support student organizations and governance leaders in their roles. Help track engagement trends and assess the effectiveness of leadership and governance programs through feedback collection and program evaluation efforts. Assist with day-to-day operational needs of the K Hub, including general office responsibilities, responding to student inquiries, and supporting staff as needed. Collaborate with campus partners to promote student leadership, civic engagement, and co-curricular involvement. Assist with other duties as assigned that support the mission and vision of the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub. Attend and provide staffing support at scheduled events, including required in-office staffing every other Monday evening and Fridays.
