TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIP OPPORTUNITY AT THE SIU SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE’S ADVANCED CARE CLINIC

ATTENTION FIRST YEAR NURSE ANESTHESIA STUDENTS ONLY:

The SIU School of Dental Medicine’s Advanced Care Clinic is currently accepting applications for a Teaching Assistant position for Summer 2024/Fall 2024/Spring 2025.  

Position Requirements and Benefits:

•Each position is 20 hours per week •Must be a Registered Nurse enrolled in SIUE CRNA Program

•Must be ACLS and PALS certified; prefer critical care experience

•Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours and in good academic standing

•Includes a monthly salary and tuition waiver (the student is still responsible for fees related to the degree that is being pursued)

Job Description:

In the role of a teaching assistant, the year 1 SRNA students will teach and interact with our predoctoral students as they preoperatively assess patients and review medications, NPO times, preoperative testing, updating height/weight, vitals, test results, policies and considerations related to dental surgery and general anesthesia.

As a TA, the SRNA student will brief the students on transition from supplemental oxygen to room air and management of post-anesthesia problems including pain, nausea/vomiting and assessment of physiologic criteria critical to a safe and appropriate discharge. These interactions with the year 1 SRNA TA will be the foundation of their formative educational experiences toward competency in CODA Standard 2-20.

Schedule:

•Set schedule, Monday through Thursday, no weekends, coordinated with CRNA curricular schedule

•This is an in-person position and does not have an online component
