Medical Excuses
Health Service believes that only professors can excuse a student from class. We ask that a Professor does not routinely have students use Health Service for this purpose. There are times when a student may feel too sick to attend class but does not qualify for a medical excuse. In these situations, it is up to the professor to decide if the student is excused.
If a student is evaluated in Health Service for an illness, we will provide medical excuses from classes missed or to be missed for 2 reasons only: 1) in those cases in which the student is at risk of exposing the illness to others and/or 2) attending class will hamper recovery from the illness. We often contact the Dean of Students to communicate to professors for students with extended medical illness.
