Community Director

The Community Director is a full-time, live-in professional staff member responsible for the daily operations of a 500-bed residence hall or a portion of an apartment community. The Community Director directly supervises 1 graduate assistant (Assistant Community Director) and 11-15 undergraduate Resident Assistants. The Community Director is charged with creating an atmosphere that promotes student learning, academic success, personal development, respect for diversity, and a strong sense of community. The Community Director plays an integral role in residential curriculum development and further growing the living-learning program housed in their community. On-call responsibilities are shared by approximately 3,000 on-campus students.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
Top candidates will have one or more of the following:
Master's degree, preferably in Higher Education and Student Affairs or related field.
- Experience in university housing as an undergraduate/graduate staff member or student leader.
- Awareness of the overall University Housing philosophy as it relates to service and education for the campus community.
- Must be skilled in the areas of supervision, communication, training, decision-making, programming, planning, budgeting, and valuation.
- Ability to work closely with students, parents, faculty, and staff in teaching, counseling, and work situations, keeping issues confidential as needed.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with a residential curriculum model.
Compensation:
- The Community Directors are compensated with a salary of $40,000, a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment, and a partial meal plan (apartment/meal plan worth $17,320) for a total compensation package of $57,320.
- Additional benefits include the State of Illinois health/retirement benefits and professional development funding for one regional and one national student affairs conference.
