Updating Your Contact Information
All F-1 and J-1 students are required to report and maintain a local U.S. address and phone number with the Department of Homeland Security within 10 days of initial arrival and within 10 days of any change. This U.S. address must be your local U.S. residential address with room number (if you live in a residence hall) or apartment number (if you live in an apartment). Campus departmental addresses, P.O. boxes and foreign addresses are not acceptable addresses for immigration purposes.
Summary Checklist for SEVIS Address/Phone Reporting Requirements
- Home country address is listed as Permanent address.
- Current U.S. residential address is listed as SEVIS address.
- SEVIS address follows correct U.S. address formatting standards.
- Current Address Voice phone is a U.S. phone number and is 10 digits in length, formatted as follows: 555/555-5555.
Current SIUE Students
Report or update your mailing and billing address and phone number through CougarNet. Please refer to the Updating Your Contact Information example or visit the Service Center in Rendleman Hall to update your contact information in person.
The SIUE Office of International Affairs will forward this address electronically to the Department of Homeland Security through SEVIS.
Students on F-1 OPT-See OPT/STEM Reporting Requirements
Students on J-1 Academic Training
Report to your international advisor by email (isss@siue.edu), within 10 days, any changes to the following information:
- Contact information (name, address, phone, email)
- Employer information (name, address, position)
The information you update will be stored in the SIUE Office of International Affairs and is used for reporting to SEVIS as mandated by federal regulations. Students who fail to report this information violate their J-1 status and may endanger their future benefits or opportunities in the United States.
