SIUE is pleased to host visiting scholars from around the world. Your presence on campus helps increase mutual understanding between the people of Edwardsville and people of other countries, increases our campus diversity, and enhances professional development among faculty and staff.
Application Process
4 Months to Arrival
- Host (SIUE faculty or staff member) discusses activities and reviews application process with the Office of International Affairs (if new to process)
- Begin the Visiting Scholar Application (and DS-7002 for student interns only)
3-4 Months to Arrival
- Host coordinates with scholar to complete Visiting Scholar Application (and DS-7002 for student interns only)
- Submit Visiting Scholar Application and required documents (including the Interview Assessment Report, if applicable) to the Office of International Affairs
2-3 Months to Arrival (when approved)
- Office of International Affairs sends scholar pre-arrival packet electronically
- Scholar schedules a shipment for the DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility
- Scholar pays I-901 SEVIS fee and J-1 visa application fee
- Scholar schedules visa appointment at the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy
1-2 Months to Arrival
- Scholar receives visa approval (if visa is denied, scholar may re-apply)
- Scholar makes travel and housing arrangements
- Scholar confirms health insurance coverage with the Office of International Affairs
1-2 Weeks to Arrival
- Office of International Affairs contacts scholar to schedule a mandatory orientation related to immigration and an introduction to the area
Arrival
- Scholar attends mandatory orientation session
- Scholar obtains Cougar Card and e-ID
- Scholar begins program
