Why we do what we do
The East St. Louis Higher Education Campus (ESLHEC) took quite a hit with the closing of the Learning Resource Center Library (LRC/Library) in June of 2016 when the future of state funding was unclear. Upon its reopening in February 2017, there have been hopeful prospects slowly returning to the campus.
Since then the LRC/Library has grown in its status and services.
- The LRC/Library is now categorized as a Special Library (also known as a Special Public) since we support both the community of East St. Louis, the SIUE Charter Highs School, and the educational programs found on the ESLHEC, now renamed the Wyvetter H. Younge Higher Education Campus.
- LRC/Library services include:
- Public access library system with Illinois Heartland Library System for interlibrary loan services within the State of Illinois
- 10 public computers with free internet access
- Free printing, copying, faxing, scanning, and Notary Public Services
- A Smart Lab with 20 computers for classroom instruction
- A full children’s library
- Workforce Development Program Assistant for career services in the areas of soft skills, interview skills, retainment discussions and job searches
- Adult Lunch and Learn programs that include community leaders and fun topics
- Virtual programming was added in 2020 to engage with at-home participants
- And much more…
